In case you were wondering, "we were so beautiful" comes from Misfits episode 4. I happen to love Nathan and this is his whole speech:

"She's got you thinking this is how you’re supposed to be. It's not. We're young. We’re supposed to drink too much. We're supposed to have bad attitudes and shag each other's brains out. Top one is SO MUCH BETTER. I don’t like Robert Downey Jr. at all and he is not Sherlock. Benedict Cumberbatch is the only real Sherlock! I mean look at his eyes, there’s not emotions in the bottom one, he’s just making a face. Benedict is actually expressing.

excuse me, Robert Downey Jr. was playing Sherlock long before Benedict Cumberbatch was. Ben is extremely talented and his take on this character are both unique and brilliant. he is flawless. but that doesn’t make Rob’s acting job any less incredible. His face is more blank in the bottom gif because a) this is a hollywood film, which make a habit of toning down their acting, and b) the directors, writers, and actors are clearly trying to enhance the relationship between holmes and watson in the show much more than the movies. the expression sherlock is making in the top gif is coming out of love, compassion, and caring. the second is coming from trust, loyalty, and friendship. these are two different actors with two different versions of a character, and just because Robert plays him differently than Benedict, it doesn’t mean that it’s emotionless

I’m not not a fan of Downey Jr.’s work. To me he seems very slapstick, it may just be how Hollywood makes him act. I think the Sherlock Holmes movies are too ‘Americanized’. It’s a lot of fast paced action with lots of fighting, shoot outs, and explosions. I don’t think Sherlock Holmes was written to be a big action hero.
